Growing old doesn't necessarily mean becoming less active or productive. The Salvation Army has taken steps to insure that our senior citizens are not forgotten. At many of our 45 corps community centers, older adults meet regularly for recreation, social activities, field trips, learning projects, community service and other activities. In Freeport, Long Island, hundreds of seniors gather on a daily basis to socialize, dine and participate in organized activities. In the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, senior citizens - some of them blind - are involved in an intergenerational program in which they visit our Bushwick Family Residence to interact with children of homeless families. In midtown Manhattan, seniors have gathered at our Central Citadel Corps for many years to participate in arts and crafts, worship and other activities. In addition, senior citizens who are homebound or confined to nursing homes receive regular visitations from Salvation Army staff and volunteers. Sometimes hot meals are delivered. On other occasions, toiletries and other small gifts are distributed. Home | welcome | about us | services and programs | our spiritual foundation | how to donate | how to volunteer | talk to us |
