Bond Street Drop-In Center
Homelessness is not a problem confined to business
hours. So why not
offer a program that serves homeless adults 24-hours a day/seven
days a week. The is why the Homeless Services Department includes the Bond
Street Drop-In Center as one of its many programs designed to
meet the varied needs of New York City’s homeless population. Tucked away in the heart of Brooklyn’s downtown
commercial district near Fulton Avenue, The Salvation Army’s
Bond Street Drop-In Center is a comprehensive care center that
never closes its doors to the homeless.
It is one of only a few 24-hour facilities in New York
City. Anyone 18
years and older can come in at anytime to meet with a case
manager, arrange for hospital transportation, take a shower, eat
a hot meal and even receive clothing assistance. Our case managers are trained to help those at the
Center bridge their way from homelessness to permanent housing.
Some clients may need a transitional residence before
moving to permanent housing.
Thanks o the Bond Street Drop-In Center’s many linkages
with area social service agencies, Bond Street case managers are
able to meet the clients diverse needs, whenever and wherever
need is apparent. It is not just around-the-clock service that makes Bond Street one of the most effective homeless facilities in New York City. At Bond Street a homeless individual is given expert counseling and is set up with a plan that aims to lead the individual back to a meaningful living situation in the community. Those
who enter Bond Street may suffer from mental illness, physical
disabilities, or chemical addition.
Regardless of their circumstance, they will find a
comprehensive range of services in this therapeutically based
program. One
of the most successful components of the Bond Street Drop-In
Center is the Stipend Program.
On a regular basis, residents join with the site
maintenance crew to help clean and “beautify” the community.
The “Street Sweep” program has been extremely well
received by our neighbors. The
Bond Street Drop-In Center has been highly successful guiding
clients to housing and to employment.
The program has been able to arrange medical attention
and even reunite families.
And because Bond Street never closes, homeless
individuals in Brooklyn have the reassurance that their
immediate needs will be met with compassion and caring. Bond Street Provides v
