The Salvation Army currently operates 10 day-care programs in the Greater New York area. Eight of the group day-care programs are classroom settings for children ages three to five. Some centers have expanded their programs to include infants, toddlers and/or after-school programs for elementary school-age children. In addition to the eight group programs, the Army operates two family day-care programs in Brooklyn. These programs serve younger children, under age three, in private families who are carefully selected and trained. In all of the programs, the Army's aim is to provide a full early childhood education experience, preparing children for their school years. Teachers are licensed college graduates, and directors have graduate school credentials. Families are eligible for governmental subsidies for child care while they work.
