The Salvation Army Greater New York Dance Company 2007-2008 Season

The Salvation Army Greater New York Dance Company will hold a dance master class on October 15, 2007 for ages fourteen and up.  The class will be held at the Times Square Corps at 315 West 47th Street in New York City.  The Class will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and will serve as an audition for anyone who is interested in becoming a member of the Greater New York Dance Company for the 2007-2008 Season.

We will not have a junior dance group until further notice.  Any future changes will be announced.

The Times Square Corps is under new Administration and we are excited for the new season and we thank Captains Billy & Annalise Francis for hosting the dance company.  We will hold classes in the beautiful dance studio on the fourth floor of the Corps.

We welcome Leilani Rodriguez as the dance instructor for this next season.  Leilani is a faithful Salvationist and brings with her fourteen-years dance experience, including a ballet, jazz and modern styles.  She has agreed to be our instructor for the upcoming season and we are excited to have her on board.

We are looking for twelve (12) dancers for the company.  Members should be at least fourteen-years-old and have sincere interest in dance and in using it as a gift to God.  It is to be understood that all members of this group will be faithful at their local corps and in good standing.  You must have the endorsement of your Corps Officer.

This first class will be an example of what we will be doing and the techniques that will be taught this season.  This class will help us decide whether the dancer is ready for this group inability, maturity and attitude.  We will notify you if you have made the company through e-mail the week following the Master Class.  All who are accepted will be expected to adhere to the rehearsal schedule and performance schedule outlined herein.  When the team is established we will discuss with the dance company possible additional performance and witness opportunities.  We will not accept new dancers once the company has been chosen, and we expect that those who begin the program will continue the program until the end.  Once accepted, each dancer will be expected to make a commitment to the group of interest and attendance.  (The schedule is attached for your interest and planning.)

All dancers who make it into the company will be expected to have proper dance attire including either ballet slippers and/or jazz shoes for all rehearsals.  Dance attire for girls will be a leotard and tights.  Leotard colors may be black, burgundy, or navy blue.  Boys may wear a T-shirt and sweatpants – not too loose or long!  Performance attire will be announced as needed.  If a member has difficulty acquiring these items she/he should speak with their Corps Officer, Leilani or Raymond.

Dancers are expected to be on time dressed and ready to dance, focused, and with a good attitude.  Rehearsals will include a dance warm-up and stretch, technique instruction, and work on choreography for various projects.  Rehearsals will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m.

All members are expected to have their own transportation to and from rehearsals and performance.  We are not able to provide shuttle between Divisional Headquarters to the Times Square Worship Center.  The Center is easily reachable by public transportation.

Should you have any questions or concerns please contact the Dance Company Manager, Raymond Livingston at rlivingston@USE.salvationarmy.org or call 347-242-6787

We look forward to this new venture with great hope and anticipation
