Doing The Most Good

Parkside and Ten Eyck Residence
Programs Closing

Quick Facts:

  • We are closing the residence programs at The Parkside and Ten Eyck facilities.
  • We have placed and or helped almost 450 of the 600 residents find other housing in other Salvation Army facilities and or other housing locations of their choosing.
  • We have had caseworkers helping these people for over a year and we have provided furnishings, moving costs and other matters of support to those who needed help to make the moves. We continue to work with tenants on relocation.
  • We are doing everything we can to help those in need in our city and no person is being thrown out onto the streets.
  • Press reports have indicated that we are evicting over 200 elderly, indigent women in 30 days.

  • Many residents have already moved. Of the 140 remaining, many already made plans to move on. Legally, we are required to serve anyone in the building with an eviction notice, even if they’ve notified us of their intent to move.
  • Neither program is a need-based or subsidized housing program.
  • Evidence of income is a requirement for residency.
  • As the need for single sex housing for professional women has decreased, the resident pool has changed. Many residents are young professional women – actresses, models, students, etc.
  • Older tenants or tenants with particular needs are being helped individually to find appropriate situations.
  • The delivery of eviction notices is a necessary part of the process –and, in fact, some tenants need the notice as part of their relocation process.
  • NOONE will be put out on the street.
